Whose new year is it

Another day at work 

for Earth, Sun, Jupiter and Moon.

Then what makes it special for us

to celebrate a planet’s feat, 
as if our own? 

Mere mortals are we,
to covertly consume others’ strength

with such finesse and finery 

that only drains them at length.

With every tsunami, every havoc

millions of flora and fauna die.
Yet this one home we wreck

And then make the loudest cry.

What a pity we cannot reckon

where her ruins fall, 
there our gallows beckon.

Scarlets and Hyacinths

Panthers and Antelopes

Deciduous and the evergreen

all pivotal for who they are.

Ahoy! my lone human breed,

have we yet learnt to fit-in at all?
