Few weeks ago, I had a blessed chance to watch one of my favorite movies again, probably for the 34th time or so. The blessing?! watching it alone at home.. solitude being a rare commodity in the grueling routines of daily life. Well, i did grab the chance to the fullest and treated my eyes and heart with every pixel of the legendary Troy. Isn't every frame of it, epic? A very unceremonious introduction to the great Achilles and the mighty Hector! so unlike the cacophonous introduction of mass heroes in our movies. No superfluous background scores, no character projected as a super human, in fact their vulnerabilities make the entire movie so interesting. Nothing actually is a surplus in this movie. Much like a good recipe, every ingredient is in its right quantity.
Whoever said Brad Pitt cannot perform ?! Just watch Achilles and say if you can take your eyes off of this man, whenever he emerges! An eye ball move, a jaw drop, a posture... every act of his connects the viewer more and more with Achilles! Specifically where Achilles has his unforeseen emotional encounter with the ageing helpless Priam, after the latter loses his son Hector(Eric Bana! Vow!) to him...That one scene in itself is worth a hundred movies! Rose Byrne as the beautiful feisty Briseis! What fireworks between Rose and Brad!
All is well in love and war they say, but love in the time of war is even fairer is'nt it! Such subtle yet meaty roles for Rose Byrne and Saffron Burrows.Women are some how behind the beginning and end of most of the wars! And here, if only men listened to their women during the time of war, half of it wouldn't have been necessary..Well, battle of Troy was destined to happen and if not for it, this master piece might not have been here, for fans like me to cud-chew and cherish a million times.
A good movie is one that has something new in store for the viewer, always. Troy, is not just a classic. It is good wine, and it only keeps getting better with age.
