Eat, pray, whatsapp

A day without this message is not a day indeed

Hola! Vanakkam! Namaskara! Namaste! Naah...GM/GD is the trend, isn't it!!

When was the last time we saw one of these fossils ?!πŸ‘‡ πŸ€”

Name: Inland letter      Status: Extinct

Name: Post Card      Status: Resting In Peace

Or, this relic!! 🀯
Name: Greeting Card   Status: Ready for heavenly abode

Those days...eagerly waiting for a letter or greeting card from friends and family....now date back to Indus valley civilization. Wait, what is this "wait" ? Oops, did I just sound like a silent-movie-sound-track for having used that almost obsolete word. After all, this is the Instant Era. The era when Telegram can deliver rib-ticklers and profile pics are more familiar than our real faces!

The family scene

About 2-3 years ago, when the unrivalled WhatsApp became a household app, ours geared up to embrace it too. What I was unprepared-for was, how it would change the way our offshoot responded to good humor. One evening, someone texted a nice joke which left me in splits and I thought it was my utmost motherly duty to pass on this good thing, like any other, to my offspring. She read it and said LOL. LOL...!! I mean, I know what LOL means, but LOL instead of laugh ?!! 😳 Voila! laughing transformed to LOLing😳 I still can neither fathom nor come to terms with it...May be that's one more difference between the Puliyogare and the Pasta generations. Anyways, the emojis seem to be getting healthier by doing all the laughing..🀷

Have a hearty LOL

Typing trauma

The next big thing is how easily and swiftly one can type in these messengers. There comes the greatest decision of language selection. For those like me who want to skip the strain of fretting over the oooh's, eee's and aaah's( Hold the horses, those are just the matra sounds) of our native languages, conversing in English or using English keys to type the native language works wonders. Behold! With this comes the huge risk of sounding like a Peter Aunty or Peter Uncle especially in the family or friends groups where most of them speak the same language. Here, Peter == Show Off. What to do !! Much akin to life, messaging is unfair too.
In spite of herculean efforts...
And the auto-correct atrocities..!! πŸ˜†πŸ˜‚

Attempt to impress turns gravely injurious

From the unassuming nine-yards to the mighty sarkar, in one auto-correct

Lethal combo - Auto-correct + Tanglish(Tamil + English)

Forwards funda

They are undoubtedly the elixirs IMs have to offer. Good or bad, they've become so integral that their absence is felt. Some admins go to great lengths to steer their groups clear of them, while some do the stark opposite πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ŠπŸ™  Yet forwards seem to be here to stay and some keep diligently revisiting us, like those doting telemarketing calls.

Around every Independence Day, right on time

Someone strongly believes NASA releases this one every Diwali

Hey Cancer, here comes a killer for you

Ebola?? Fear not. Fwd hai na

This one's a classic. Gets few rookies actually worked up

This one has attained cult status in the intended audience

Laugh out loud, really πŸ˜‚πŸ˜„πŸ˜†

The main attraction, at least personally, are the jokes. Some of them are actually cool. Like the one below, which portrays a practical woe quite pragmatically.

Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan just got his train ticket online
What best way other than memes to keep it crisp and comic, with few men whose faces feed a million memes, their antics tickling a billion bones.

The name is Vadivelu. There are apps with whatsapp stickers on him

King Pulikesi will always be remembered with this face

The picture says it all

Laurel and Hardy of Tamil cinema. Also a popular sticker duo

And just like that, our days got 25 hours...for us to walk, talk and breathe with whatsapp !!

PC: WhatsApp groups and internet.
Disclaimer: There are certainly countless other interesting messages transcending regions and languages but in the interest of the post's length only a few personal favorites made it here. Needless to say, the benefits of IMs are known to all of us. Their vital role in connecting people, sharing critical information during emergencies is crystal clear. The post throws more light on the lighter side of these tools. Have an endorphin-enriching read πŸ‘‹
